Several weeks ago I wrote a post, with the intention of it being about the extreme tactics advocates use to make their point. I used the example of an anti-abortion protest because 1) it happened in Howard County and 2) I found the methods used personally, very disquieting to me. I made it clear in the original post that this was not a post about the abortion/choice issue; rather it was a discussion of these tactics.
In the course of the ensuing comments, I learned a lot about how others, and I, deal with subject matter that is distasteful. I appreciate the thoughtfulness the respondents put in to their posts. It may sound trite, but some of these posts have given me cause for self-reflection, and have given me suggestions on how I can keep my own mind more open.
However, some have decided to ignore my original post, and instead, make the thread a debate about abortion. That is not a debate I'm interested in, that's not what the post was about, and that's a debate in which I choose not to participate. I respect everyone's right to participate in the blog, and as such I have chosen to not edit or delete any of the posts on the thread. But I do want to make clear my intent in writing my original post.
I appreciate the efforts of several, especially Ordinary Joe, in attempting to keep the thread focused.
Back to local affairs later this weekend.
