I don't know what people who read this blog make, but I will say this. Less than $53K a year for a 60-hour a week job, which you have to interview for hundreds of times over a 12-18 month period, where 40% of your customers hate your guts and want you tossed out as soon as you get the job-- I'd call that a job that's rather low on the compensation scale.
Yet such is what a Howard County Councilmember earns.
I have my own thoughts as to the composition of the Council, which I will share next week! But insofar as the compensation of the Council-- we need to be able to attract and retain fine people in this job, as with any other job. A modest 1-2% increase (due to the economy) would seem to make sense. My personal view is that they all deserve a lot more, but we do need to be sensitive to the times.
