Giving Columbia Patch credit here for great coverage of the redevelopment visions for Wilde Lake Village Center. Look here for their latest contribution to the dialogue.
Someone recently said in the media that a"one size fits all" approach for the village centers doesn't work for everyone. Well, big whoop on that. I've been saying that for almost ten years now.
But this is an important conversation Wilde Lake's having and it's a good thing that it's occurring.
What's interesting to me, reading the article and looking at the pictures-- is that when you look at the conceptual plans of Kimco and of the residents' group's alternative-- photos 2 and 5 in the article-- there are more commonalities and differences. Both have central parking and green space surrounded by various office, retail and residential buildings. Orientations and locations may be different but there doesn't seem to be huge discrepancies in terms of usage.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Wilde Lake can have a great community dialogue and a fine product can result. Let's up decades-long feuds and prejudices don't reignite.
