For the fourth year running, Howard County Government is bringing you free parking in downtown Ellicott City for the holidays. So, starting today and running through January 2, at those four areas in historic EC where there are meters to feed-- well, you don't have to. The county will have signage to ensure that only the biggest idiots will forget and actually feed the meters.
So now there's no reason to miss Midnight Madness in historic EC next Friday, December 2. December 2 will also mark the opening of the new and improved Howard County visitors' center at the site of the old Ellicott City post office.
The combination of free parking, a high concentration of retail, the opening of the visitor center, and just the reason that it's Friday night should make next Friday in Ellicott City the place to be. I think this is where the holiday season kicks off with a bang in Howard County!
In fact, I can just see our County Executive now, proclaiming Howard County open for business, and inviting all those from far and near to shop in Ellicott City and Howard County. The word shall go out to the Oellans, Halethorpians, Eldesburgers, Arbutians, Damascans, and Olneyites to visit fair Howard County; to rejoice! and spend excessive amounts of money.

So, when demand is highest for the parking spaces, cut the price! Makes sense if you don't think about it.
