Well, the long-suffering residents of Elkridge may finally claim a civic victory. It is looking increasingly likely that the proposed intermodal transit depot may not wind up locating in Elkridge. CSX has dropped plans to purchase land-- plans in the form of actual agreements, mind you-- that would have purchased property which would have allowed for the building of the facility in Elkridge.
Lindsey McPherson wrote about it, so it must be true. You can read about it here.
I think this is wonderful news for Elkridge, but the lumpen proletariat should refrain from erupting in cartwheels just yet. It is still possible that the facility may still be in Howard County, as a site in Jessup is still being considered. The article is silent on that potential site.
Seems to me there's a fairly large city to the northeast of Howard County called Baltimore, which would be a wonderful place for this facility. All the necessary infrastructure and industrial use property is already there. And CSX is, after all, the great-great-great-great-great-offspring of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.
Sounds like a deal waiting to happen. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake, make it so!
