When I'm in at 8:30, and that's my early night of the week-- well, now you know why the blogosity hasn't been tended to with my normal zeal. Oh well, after a few day hiatus, I am back!
And I had tried, really, really hard, to stay out of the whole Wegman's mess. But for those of you who have been living under a rock-- because even the folks living off the train tracks behind Columbia Gateway know this, Wegman's opens on Sunday! There's a whole article about it and everything, and it can be found here.
I am as happy as the next person to check out Wegman's, and I can see myself there during the first week. But at a time of MY choosing. And with that in mind, I offer a few survival tips that will make your first trip to Wegman's an enjoyable one, and will make you want to keep coming back!
1. Avoid peak hours. At least for the first few weeks. I'd say evenings after 8pm or so would be a good time to go.
2. Don't rush through the store. It is vast. If you need more than one trip to take it all in, please do that. When I explored the Hunt Valley Wegman's a few months after it opened, I promised I'd explore the whole place within 30 minutes. Took me 3 1/2 hours and I still felt like I rushed. And I'm not much of a grocery shopper.
3. Go alone. Friends and family can only slow you down.
4. If you're a total adrenaline junkie, but don't have the wherewithal to jump from a plane, go the first day. First off, I don't believe there will not be campouts. I predict there will be people there at least 24 hours before the opening. But if you really want to take in the psychosis, then go on Day 1.
May your Wegman's shopping experience be a pleasant one!
