I am a sick, sick man. I watched that General Plan hearing Monday night until after 11:30. In fact, I fell asleep with the damn thing on. What a loser.
If you want to read a more, uh, structured piece about Monday night's mayhem, well then look no further than here. But I will offer an overview of observations.
First off, I don't like anything that relieves petitioners/developers/the county from its public notification requirements. So those should NOT be changed, at all. Got it? get it? Good!
Next-- maybe I missed it while I was watching it, but where was the outrage about the General Plan? Sure, there were comments made and concerns expressed, but no real fear or anger about this being a "pivotal turning point in the history of our county" or any such rhetoric as penetrated discussions over the last two General Plans. In fact this meeting appears at times genteel by comparison.
So this being the case, there must be some value to this whole PlanHoward 2030 thing. There were enough comments about it, none of them strongly oppositional ones about the entire plan, that the entirety of the plan, broken into its components, must be popular to the county as a whole.
And if that's the way it is (and correct me if I am wrong), then this plan is, for the most part, a job well done!
