Join me in considering........ the Pop-Tart

   After yesterday's post about Ms. Patti McDermott, who should be known to one and all forever more as "The Cakester", I would like to remain in the world of baked goods for at least one more post.  And I would like to ask you, my loyal readership, to consider.... the humble, unassuming Pop-Tart.

   This amazing Kellogg's product has withstood the test of time and has defeated all comers.  No serious challengers in the world of toaster pastries exist.  Although, I must admit, when Merry-Go-Rounds were in existence, those were pretty damn good.

   To date, in my nearly 45 years on this planet, I believe I have never eaten a Pop-Tart from a toaster.  They have always been consumed by me at room temperature.  And they are mighty yummy.  Are they better toasted?  I wonder?  The thought of scalding my tongue with the filling turns me off to that possibility.

   Further, consider this: is a Pop-Tart really a tart?  Some of the evidence would suggest not.  Look at this list of current Pop-Tart flavors.

   Now, I am familiar with tarts being cherry, strawberry, peach, lemon, possibly raspberry or even kiwi.  I do NOT remember them being "confetti cupcake" or brown sugar cinnamon or S'Mores flavored.  I just don't.  And I wouldn't even consider those appropriate flavors for tarts.  Tarts should have fruit.  S'Mores are not fruit.

   I understand how they address the unorthodox nature of the Pop-Tart by the appellation "toaster pastry".  I believe that's how the fine folks at Kellogg's get away with such oddball flavorings.  Because calling them "toaster tarts" would imply fruitiness.

   At this point, I turn the forum over to you, gentle readers.  Your thoughts, opinions, comments, or favorite Pop-Tart related memories you would care to share?

Pop Tarts Lost me when they went to S'mores. Frosted Cherry was always a favorite of mine. Relatedly, tarts should have fruit, bagels should not (yes, I am looking at you, blueberry bagel).
