A long time ago, MM was part of the Howard County Citizens Police Academy. Amongst the dozens of other factoids learned in that very worthwhile program, I learned that the license plate numbers on our police cruisers match the cruiser's car number. So, car number 131 has license plate number "HC-0131". This makes for easy identification, as the car numbers are often not easily visible.
So lately, I have been noticing on the roads that the license plate numbers and the car numbers have not been matching. And I for one, would like to know why. Because if the license plates should be matching the car number-- well, that means the cruiser's registration goes along with the license plate. And if the license plate doesn't match the car number, doesn't that mean that a cruiser is using another car's license plate? And isn't it a big no-no for an automobile-- even a Howard County police cruiser-- to display the license plates of another registered vehicle? I know it would be if I switched the tags on my vehicle with those of another family member.
I have thought to get photographic evidence of this, but so far, visual evidence is all I've got. But I've seen this enough to know that it exists. Anyone in county government out there, willing to provide an explanation?
