So Liz Bobo has announced that she won't be running for re-election to the General Assembly in 2014. Da Patch brings you all the Bobo Fett goodness here. However, this very blog called the end to Liz Bobo's career as a State Delegate, way back in this post. This was over eight and a half months ago, people!
Now, anyone else wanna say I've lost touch with local politics? Didn't think so.
Acute observers to this post may notice the question marks at the end of the title, and my words "re-election to the General Assembly". Because although I'm sure the fact that she'll be 70 in 2014, and the situation with her grandson, Zach Lederer, figured into her decision, I am not quite convinced that Liz Bobo's political career is dead yet. As they say in many a movie, I'll believe it when I see the corpse.
I see Liz Bobo as none too happy with the state of political affairs in these parts, and although I frankly am happy that she's none too happy, I also know her well enough to know that she may still want to do something about these crazy people who want their generation's own chance to remake Columbia. And what better way to show all those young, 30 and 40 something whippersnappers how it's done than to run oneself?
I will say it here: I don't think a Liz Bobo run for County Council in District 4 is out of the question. I can see her having the brass to take on Mary Kay Sigaty and if she were to gain election to the Council, knock heads with the other Democratic Council members and whoever the new County Executive may be. It would be a bold move, and although the last several years have seen me have some real philosophical differences with Liz, I know she is capable of the bold move.
