Special Session #2 for the Maryland General Assembly is more than 24 hours underway as we speak! You can follow it in bloody near real time here. Senate President Mike Miller is saying that it's going to be over Tuesday, at the earliest. No worries; Annapolis is lovely this time of year.
Question is though, will anything get done? As of this writing, the expanded gambling legislation has passed a Senate committee and may be voted on by the Senate today. Then, off to the House of Delegates for what will definitely be a tougher go.
Not sure why there is other legislation being put up at this special session at all, really. Aren't special sessions only supposed to be called for emergencies? Mind you, I feel that the gambling expansion isn't REALLY an emergency. I don't exactly sense that Prince Georges County is in crisis because it has no casino. But legislation regarding pit bulls? Why? And this "jobs package" that State Senator (and Congressional candidate in District 2-- hello, HoCo hook!) Nancy Jacobs has put forth? Again, why? So much for the GOP argument that Democrats are the only ones wasting taxpayers' dollars.
Oh I just love this!!! I have got to get mine out again and get to work on it.
