Time now for a 53 Special Update!
Required reading for today is this article by Andrew Metcalf of Columbia Patch. The first reason why this is required reading is that good ol' MM, in his Clark Kent form, is liberally quoted!
The Second through two hundred and ninety-third reason why this article must be read is because it oh, so succinctly outlines the reasons why Ann DeLacy shouldn't even know the directions to HoCo Education HQ, much less serve on the board of education.
Look, as the article says, I mean this woman no ill will personally. I simply want her to lose an election. But if she is going to be a bully, if she's going to lob accusations, deal innuendo, cause doubt and mistrust and then run and hide behind a curtain of "teacher/African-American/female/grandmother" when people tell her that jacking up a 19-year-old and referring to Board of Education members by the same name as was used by a group of tyrants during the Chinese Cultural Revolution is wrong, then this is just not going to stand. If you yourself act in a most uncivil manner, then hide behind a shield of civility when called to question for it, then you, madam, are yourself a hypocrite.
And to throw in the spectre of violence, like what happened recently in Colorado and most recently at Perry Hall High School, well, I truly feel she has a screw loose. And I think the comments she made in that regard are the most dangerous things anyone could do... not what I or any other critic of Automatic Ann write.
What I would love to know, and what ADL nor her tens of supporters has answered yet, is this. What is The Big Lie that the HCPSS is hiding, that when she gets on the BOE, and takes names and throw stones and all that rot, what will be revealed? Is our Superintendent really the Wizard of Oz? What? All I hear are all these parochial complaints-- my school didn't get X, I think Y area is being treated unfairly, and so forth. Really?
Beating the chest of my own area where my kids have gone to school, the Oakland Mills HS area, we came to a simple conclusion: Quit bitching and start working. Stop looking for the HCPSS or county government to solve all our damn problems, and engage the community to be part of the change you need. Having attended my daughter's high school orientation there about 10 days ago, and having my son graduate from there in May and now attend Penn State, I think it's working.
I congratulate Mr. Metcalf on a nice article, and I hope that this article brings about a change in the tone and tenor of our BOE race. And that the tone becomes more oriented about the future than the past. And if that happens, ADL can actually lend herself very positively to that debate. I truly feel that. And maybe that'll happen? Can it happen?
I believe Steve Martin's character "Theodoric of York" on Saturday Night Live said it best when he said, "Naaaaaaahh!"
