OK, so this is an epidemic I hope stops, as in now. There was another incident on Tuesday morning of a gun being brought into a Baltimore County school. This time it was Stemmers Run Middle School, and the student was in 8th grade. The Sun brings you all the details here. The teacher who got the gun away from the kid is truly a hero.
So I get that this could just be a copycat incident of the opening day of school incident at Perry Hall High School, but let's get one thing clear here: bringing a gun into school is not a great idea. Ever. I like the idea of wanding the kids in the schools, at least in the short term.
I guess the question is: do we need to step up any sort of school security measures in Howard County, in light of these incidents? Fair question to ask. I don't think thus far these types of incidents have shown the tendency to cross borders.
Totally amazing that some BOE candidate recently complained about feeling unsafe because people decided to call her out for her ignorant, hateful mouth. Because more and more, I'm wondering if it's not our children who should be feeling unsafe, simply going to school every morning.
