No link to this one, but a little venting by good ol' MM here.
So the case of the stupid numbnut with the slingshot who slung shot at a speed camera van has been adjudicated. So this freak gets a probation before judgement, which means that if he keeps his nose clean his record is cleared, plus he has to complete an anger management counseling course and pay restitution.
I'm sorry, but am I the only one who is struck by this as kind of not enough?
If this fool has slung his shot at a police cruiser, and attempted to assault a full member of the HoCo PoPo, instead of a civilian employee of the HCPD, this guy would be in big doo-doo. And it would be well-deserved. Assaulting a cop can get you 10 years in the pokey, people.
So, our county gives enforcement powers to people who aren't as fully trained as our regular police, they face the same perils as our regular police, do the same duties, and when someone acts out towards them, the offender gets less of a punishment? That seems a little bit out of whack to me.

Regular police have a lot of training regarding their issues. They can easily handle any situation effectively and they have experience of doing that.

Very good post. Made me realize I was totally wrong about this issue. I figure that one learns something new everyday.
