Without a whole lot of fanfare, an era ended in Howard County government and politics last week. Marge Rappaport, the longtime Clerk of the Court for Howard County, retired November 2nd. There's an article about her retirement here.
Few people recall anymore that Marge's husband Paul was once the Chief of Police here in the HoCo, and was the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor when Ellen Sauerbrey ran for Governor. The Rappaports were stalwart members of the local GOP and helped sway then Sheriff Michael Chuicholo and then Registrar of Wills Kay Hartleb over to the Republican Party in 1994.
Marge, among many other things, will also be remembered for her, ah, shall we say, very unique campaign branding. Her colors were neon pink and black. They certainly got a lot of notice! Although, halftone photos screened transparently on a neon pink background weren't the best idea. Made her photo look like some sort of ink blot.
So the Deputy Clers moves into the Clerk's office, until 2014 when the position is elected. And as dumb lick would have it, Wayne Robey, son of Senator Jim Robey of District 13, is that guy. Any doubt that Wayne's going to run in his own right in 2014? Nah, didn't think so.
I congratulate Marge on her 22 years of service as Clerk of Court and wish her well on her retirement!
