In the aftermath of Newtown, with all the sensationalism starting to set in, with the beginnings of the seemingly inevitable politization of the unmentionable slaughter of innocent children and adults, I think it is all the more important for simple, sincere shows of grace and humility to rule the day.
A friend of mine from and since high school, Faith Puzio, has a simple idea, which she began to promote on her Facebook page on Monday. I saw several other people pick it up and offered to post this in her blog.
In Faith's own words, here it is:
"practice 26 random acts of kindness for strangers in the coming weeks as tribute. Be it letting someone ahead of you in traffic, paying the bill for the person behind you at Starbucks, whatever. Share if you wish. I'd love to have people join me, & participate in this challenge. "Pay it forward". I believe we can start a "kindness revolution". I have faith it can be done."
During the holiday season, this shouldn't be so hard, right? Especially with the world calling out for a huge helping of kindness, love, and decency? Obviously, the selection of the number 26 signifies the lights that were extinguished in Newtown last Friday.
I think it is a wonderful thing for her to put this out there and I hope people pick up on it. I know I am going to set forth to fulfill this challenge. We need all the random acts of kindness we can muster up nowadays.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if EVERYONE did this EVERYDAY.

We try to practice random acts of kindness anyway. At least once a week we buy for the person behind us at Starbucks, we always try to let people in traffic, help kids who come to rocket launches, etc. We can't afford much, but we do what we can.

I was given a christmas tree just to make me smile, a christmas dinner a couple of gift cards and a special gentleman gave me a hundred dollar bill. All because my medical bills and being sick and misdiagnosed for son long has left us financially strapped. These individuals made our holiday special. I cannot ever repay their kindness but it sure makes other things seem less difficult to battle.
