One thousand posts. This post marks number one thousand to this blog, ever.
Holy crap.
When I started writing this blog back in May of 2008, I never really had a notion of how long I would write it, and insofar as to how often I would post, I just went by "as often as I want to". Well, about two years into it, and a conversation with Wordbones in which he basically said, "Look, asshole, you write a good, entertaining, informative blog, but if you think writing 8 or 9 posts a month you're going to get any viewership, you have rocks in your head", I committed myself to writing more. Every day if possible, though I have been known to take a few days off if there's not much news or if I just feel the need to get a recharge on. And occasionally when life intervenes.
And what a great decision that was.
I am THE FIRST to say this blog isn't for everyone. If you want, sunshine, unicorns, rainbows and gumdrops there are other places you can go in the local blogoverse. And while more often lately, I notice the tone of what I write becoming much more analytical, there are likely other blogs locally who do the analytical thing better.
So what does this blog do better than anyone? It presents variety. It presents the richness of life in this county and the state. And it keeps it real. It's highbrow when it needs to be, lowbrow when the circumstances call for it. And it's brutally, brutally honest. And on occasion, brutally brutal. It calls things as they're seen and pulls no punches. It brings joy, despair, laughter, anger, frustration, contemplation, laughter, and sorrow. In other words, it's just like real life.
And starting today, it's going to start bringing more.
I would like to welcome you, the true believers, the loyal audience, the eight, to MarshmallowManTV. You can find it here. I do believe this is the first YouTube channel of any blog in the county. Right now, you will find on the channel a welcome video from Good Ol' MM and some other videos I think are cool! I will post on here when a new video is up-- will go for weekly on that-- but don't hold me to it! : ) But this channel will be my latest, newest modality of bringing you the finest in commentary, news, rumor and speculation on all things affecting Howard County and Maryland. And like the blog, it's not going to be for everyone. Be forewarned, and be amazed!
So at this milestone of one thousand posts, I choose not to reflect upon the past, but instead to live in the moment, and look towards the future! I do want to thank all my family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances who have been supporters, advisors and critics of me over the past thousand posts. Especially I want to thank my college friend Debra Hamel, whose blog and various literary and academic exploits have served to inspire me; my son Will, who is walking the journalistic path in which I have just dabbled, as a Broadcast Journalism major at Penn State (and by all looks, it appears he's turning into a pretty damn good one); and my friend Batgirl, who in a short time has been a lot of wonderful things for me in this phase of my life, and with whom I have accumulated a debt I can never repay. Kinda like the Federal government!
And it wouldn't be a post to The 53 without a poorly constructed, run-on sentence, right? At least there are no spelling errors or typos... I think. Happy Friday, all you all!
