New plans for Symphony Woods have been revealed. You can find a description of the new plan here. What do I think? Well, if you didn't want to know, you wouldn't be reading this post now, would you, Smartypants?
I like it. I like it a lot.
This plan, called the "Inner Arbor" Plan, was designed by a Columbia resident and former Rouse Company architect (ka-ching! ; ) ) and includes space for a new CA Hall of Justice....errrr.... Headquarters.... as well as creating an "arts village" within Symphony Woods. No word as to whether or not archaeology would be one of the arts. I bet there are some really cool pipes from Dead shows in the 70s and 80s that are buried in the strata at Symphony Woods.
I like in this plan where it shows a bridge from the Mall to Symphony Woods over Little Patuxent Parkway. Long overdue in my view.
I am not liking that right now we don't know how much this plan would cost, but, well, that's why they call it a "conceptual" plan. Dollar figures for making this plan a reality will come. Rest assured that the CA HQ will be the big ticket item in the plan.
Last week, Leslie From Columbia, a loyal reader of this blog with whom I often find agreement, expressed criticism of local architects being involved in this plan, suggesting it would lead to a bad result. Leslie, and all, your comments to this plan are therefore invited!
