It is on. The 2014 Maryland state and local election dash for cash, that is.
This article gives some down and dirty numbers. Howard County's very own Kenny U raised about $1.14M during 2012, which leaves him only about $60K behind Attorney General Doug Gansler in terms of 2012 fundraising. Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, who is rapidly impressing me as a man with a compelling story but not a lot of accomplishment, and who really needs to get that stupid look off his face, hasn't yet announced his fundraising numbers. Delegate Heather Mizeur, a very late comer to the Governor's race, has raised about $250K in 2012, which is pretty darned impressive.
Looking at the 2014 campaign for Howard County Executive.... errrrr, sorry, for HOWARD COUNTY, Courtney Watson has opened up a can of whoopass on the competition. For those of you who consider Watson an underdog and not able to marshal whatever it takes to win... yuh, right. After all, she only raised a little over $250K. Allan Kittleman raised $170K and surprising to me, Calvin Ball outraised Guy Guzzone, $85K to $61K in 2012. I'm just going to let you mull over that last paragraph, especially the last part of that last sentence, dear reader. But that tells me some interesting things that I could speculate about almost incessantly.
I will say only this. I'm starting to wonder what Democratic elected official from the east side of US29 will be running for what?
There's a few things we can get out of this data release, but there's one conclusion we can come to. The data shows a relatively small amount of money raised by Mary Kay Sigaty. There was some talk that she may run in the Exec. primary, but I think we may be able to officially rule that out now.
