Clearing the deck of noteworthy items that didn't get written about during Super Bowl week. Almost there!
I received an e-mail from Jon Weinstein the other day. Jon is the Ellicott City businessman and activist who ran unsuccessfully for the House of Delegates in 2010. Anyway, Jon has announced his "2014 campaign kickoff" for February 28 at Serafino's restaurant in Ellicott City. What is Jon running for? Why, "for Howard County", of course! I've already shared what I think about these people running "for Howard County", "for Maryland", "for their life", etc. It's dumb and makes no sense.
So, OK, what Jon is probably running for is to succeed Courtney Watson on the Howard County Council in District 1. Of course, Courtney hasn't officially announced she's running for County Executive, though wordbones still thinks she did. So what if she decided to run for council again? Will Jon defer and instead run for Judge of the Orphan's Court? That's for Howard County, after all.
Now, I do so enjoy telling other people what they ought to do with their lives, so I'll now say what he should run for. He should run for Delegate in that new Ellicott City-based district. Yes, I understand that there's already another possible Democratic candidate there. But I do find that Jon's platform, as I currently understand it, is more state-oriented and honestly, I think the roles should be reversed. He should run for Delegate and Mary Ann Maher run for Council. But I think she might live in another Council district. That makes things, as the guy in the commercial says, a pain in the buns.
Welcome, Jon Weinstein, into the fray!
