Could Howard County Economic Development Authority head Laura Neuman be headed for greener pastures after not yet even two years on the job. Well, maybe not greener pastures, but at least, Anne Arundel County!
Tonight, tonight, tonight, the Anne Arundel County Council votes from among 16 candidates to select the replacement for County Executive John Leopold. Neuman submitted her name incondieration of the position.
I preface everything I'm going to say about this with the fact that I definitely feel that Neuman could do the job. I wish her good luck in the competition, though I think she's facing kind of long odds to get the nod.
So while I recognize an opportunity like this one is more or less a once-in-a-lifetime shot, I have to wonder: is this appropriate? Just because you can do a thing doesn't mean you should do a thing. And while I know the job of HCEDA head requires one to build partnerships with those in other jurisdictions, and to think regionally, the job is one geared towards the economic development of Howard County.
No, I'm not saying that Laura Neuman's done a bad job as HCEDA head, or that while her paycheck comes from HoCo her head and heart are with AACo. But I am saying that not being on the job for two years is a little bit short a time to be looking for the next thing. The fact that she's looking at something makes me want to make sure that her efforts are centered towards and in Howard County.
And I'm just an idiot blogger with no authority over this person whatsoever. But I am a concerned citizen and I want to know that my public servants are working full-time for me and my community's interest, and aren't interested in stepping stones.

So much for those long odds! Seemed she benefitted from support from three Dems and a fractured GOP council
