Don't look now, but the Senate just voted to repeal the death penalty

While everyone was having a conniption fit about Winter Storm Saturn, important things in the world were happening.  Such as that the Maryland Senate voted to repeal the state's death penalty.  There's an article you can read about it here.

I'm not sure what I find more interesting about the 27-20 vote to repeal the death penalty.  One, that two Republicans, including Howard County's own Allan Kittleman, voted for the repeal.  Or two, that no Democratic State Senator voted against the repeal.  I need to nugget that one over.

So now the repeal goes to the House of Delegates, where I am guessing that the repeal will pass by a much wider margin.  And then, from there, the repeal goes to referendum in the 2014 election.

I am keeping my powder dry on this one.  I have always felt, very staunchly, one way on the death penalty debate.  Whether that changes, I am going to have to let the devate mature and see what happens.

Snopocalypse '13, March 6. 2:00pm

Well, if there ever has been a winter storm that was made for this blog, this one has been it.

Sidewalks and roadways are wet.  Not white.  Not even black ice.

There is visible grass on my front yard.  And in my back yard.  Most of the yard is covered in pebbly ice and snow.  But that's it.

And about 90 minutes ago, I get text messages from OverReaction Howard that we're in a "Winter Storm Watch".

OOOOoooooooooooo.  Now I'm scared.

I guess it's possible the worst is yet to come and possible we're still going to get 4-8 inches of snow, blowing winds, and Siberian conditions this evening.  But I am just not seeing it.

Should this video be all that survives of me, due to this historically vile winter storm, I hope to be remembered as a man who only sought to serve, inform, and to give people a reason to smile on occasion in their lives.
