This election stuff in CA is starting to get very ridiculous, very fast. As exhibit A, I bring you this post from Julia McCready's blog.
I tend to provide a certain level of candor to community discussion that others seem to not engage in, for whatever reason. So please allow me to do so here.
First, I'm kind of glad that this is the worst of what's being said about her candidacy for CA Board/ CCR from Oakland Mills. At least to date. We still have 10 days until election day.
Second--- really? A musician or a music teacher isn't qualified to serve on the CA Board? This is such elitism and incredibly insulting. If memory serves, we currently have an artist on the Howard County Council and another one is Howard County's longest-serving member of its House of Delegates delegation. And does anyone remember that Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono and Al Franken were all entertainers? To disqualify any walk of life from serving in public office is simply one of the most ridiculous claims anyone could make.
Third-- OMG, this may even be worse. Only a retired person could serve on the CA Board? Well, of course, the CA Board does so much work during the days.... not. And this is a volunteer position? IDK, a number of the board members seem to be doing just fine holding down full-time jobs and working on the CA Board. How many of them? Well, seems like all of them! I'm going to try to appeal to my higher angels, not call this an attempt to be ageist, and just believe this is another ridiculous statement.
The worst thing, and final thing. These people, who are working for Julia's opponent. I know who they are. We're not talking about Columbia newbies or rookies. We're talking about people who know better. People who should know that the discussion as to who to elect should be based on performance and ideas, not on intangible nonsense. And so shame on them.
As I said at the outset, the election season still has 10 days left in it. Can't wait to see what other nonsense will get brought up. Looking forward to the rumormongering that Julia's not qualified to serve, because she can exist on a planet with an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere!
