Had a great time at Tom Coale's campaign service event today, working at the Community Action Council's garden plot in Long Reach. The plot is maintained by volunteers, coordinated by a CAC staff member, to help ensure that the CAC's food bank contains fresh produce for those using the food bank's services.
I have maintaining a large veggie garden in my DNA, as I did this think from about the age of 8 to about the age of 13. It's hard work but actually very rewarding! Especially when the result is that you only have to buy meat, bread, and dairy products for the year!
Here are some pictures from today's great event!
Here's the plot! Currently not growing any carrots. Yay!
Mickey Gomez was there! And before she got down to business, she was taking pictures. Damn bloggers. Thinking they're so smart and smug, all sitting behind a computer saying stuff. Who do they think they are. They don't do any real work. (Note: there were at least three bloggers there.)
The CAC plot is all veggies all ther time, but the citizens' plots are not. Can you spot the butterfly?
While we were working a couple of us saw the Southwest jet painted like the Maryland flag flying overhead. Hopefully a good omen. And, I saw a goldfinch! Not the stuffed kind either.
