There's been lots of local activism lately with the local blogocracy. Just within the past week there has been the whole Julia Louis Dreyfus/ Jonathan Van Meter/ "Vulture" magazine/ City Paper deal, and the situation regarding Second Chance Saloon. While I still remain skeptical about the local blogocracy's real power in changing the course of local events (a discussion Jessie and I had Friday night at Second Chance) I do grant the point that perhaps that power is being realized.
And coincidentally, in the midst of a really long commute home Thursday night, in the midst of the Louis Dreyfus thing, I created The Howard County Blog Avengers! As they say on your favorite Facebook application, these characterizations are scarily accurate:
Captain America: a noble soldier, beyond repproach in ethics, strong of character, with a strong belief in the values that make our community great. Who else but Tom Coale?
Iron Man: Bright, walks among the powerful, yet skeptical of authority, very self-reliant, witty/sarcastic, irreverent? Ahem. That's yours truly.
Hulk: Mild mannered and easy going, trys to blend in, but when angered gets really, really angry! In fact, we wouldn't like him when he's angry! And affinity to Iron Man. Compass Guy!!!!
Thor: Stoic, strong, lives on high, yet enjoys getting his hands dirty and matching his strength with otherwordly, powerful beings. And bearded. And needs a hug. Hayduke!
Hawkeye: Dedicated to service and self sacrifice, a little below the radar. Going to go with TJ "Rocket Powered Butterfly" Mayotte here.
Black Widow: unfortunately, the local blogoverse has a ton of ladies, yet there's only one female Avengers character. For reasons of foreignness and affinity to Captain America, going with Claire McGill here. Within the Universe, Mickey Gomez as Pepper Potts. Mickey looks like Gwyneth. At least I think so.
Nick Fury: the force that could bring all this nonsense together. Could only be Dennis. Picturing Wordbones chomping a cigar and wearing an eyepatch and it fits so well.
Future additions: HoCoHouseHon as the Scarlet Witch and A Dude Who Loves Food as Quicksilver, and we already have a start on Avengers 2!
Bet you will not watch "Avengers" in the same way again, will you? Sorry to have ruined the movie for you.
Happy National Cat Herders Day!!! How appropriate that is. Let's be careful out there.
