Warming up the Zesty Topicality after a surreal last few days. Time to get back on the bike and start pushing pedals.
Among the issues that not a lot of people have been thinking about lately-- the proposed liquor store at the Wegman's property, to be run by the proprietors of Cindy's Liquors in Elkridge.
This case went to the Planning Board and it was determined that the proposed use, a liquor store, was not compatible with a liquor store. So, the proprietors of the Wegman's liquor store-in-waiting have appealed this case to the Hearing Examiner, who will be hearing (no pun intended) the case on this coming Thursday.
As I've mentioned in the past, I've had a change in opinion regarding this proposed use. I don't know how this liquor store, positioned next to a grocery store, is any different simply because the liquor store is a vertical neighbor, not a horizontal one. And not sure the argument of the site of the liquor store being on the Wegman's property holds water either. In Owen Brown Village Center, I'm pretty sure that Giant Food (or the real estate arm of Giant Food, whatever that means) owns the entire village center. Which would include the liquor store and many other businesses. If that's no conflict, then how is this proposed situation one?
I'll be interested to see how this case works out.
Let's be careful out there.
