Hi. I'm back! What a weird, strange trip it's been the last three weeks.
It all started when a few people who I know had been considered for a third slot on a Democratic "Team 12" slate for Delegate started posting on social media that they had decided not to run. That meant that there would be a very open scramble to run for Delegate in District 12. However, I run in District 13.
Then I got a Facebook message and a few hours later, I got back in the game. Big time.
We banter back and forth and co-host an internationally-acclaimed series of YouTube videos, but James Howard is one of the smartest, incisive, passionate, committed people I have ever met. He has extensive education and practical experience in public policy and technology and this state sorely needs those skills. It's why I'm supporting Alec Ross for Governor. But, all politics is local.
So James messaged me and asked me to talk him out of a crazy idea he was having. Which was to run for Delegate in District 12. Upon talking with him about what his campaign would be about-- education, jobs, gun safety, opportunity-- there wasn't anything crazy about the idea. In fact it was a good one and then when Jamie asked if I'd be willing to put my labor where my brain is, how else could I respond, but.... indubitably!
And that's how I became Treasurer/manager/Chairman of the James Howard for Delegate campaign. And most of where I've been the last few weeks.
It's already been a great experience. There are some wonderful people running in this campaign in District 12. Some are old friends, some are new acquaintances-- and on both sides of the river. It's been exciting meeting people from Baltimore and Howard Counties and talking with them about how their state is currently failing them and how it can do better.
If you want to know more about the James Howard campaign-- which you really do need to know about if you live in District 12-- then you need to go here and check out the campaign website. It's a nifty little site, if I do say so myself!
For the next three months here at least, posts will be more scarce. Besides this campaign, my work with the Inner Arbor Trust, and the work I do for a living, I'm kinda busy. And, I don't see myself doing as I'd originally intended-- interviewing and posting about all the campaigns going on in the primary. Some of which have become quite sharp.
Fact is-- I'm not an outsider now. I'm part of it and so with role shifting from commentator/observer to participant, I find my tone and words have to be reoriented. Appropriate to being a player in the game now, not just a watcher.
And if we're not successful in the June primary-- well, maybe things then will change on these pages. Then again, in the meanwhile, the Next Thing is already well into the planning stages and will debut this summer. Ahhhh, but what is the Next Thing?
Wouldn't you like to know???
Let's be careful out there.
