So, the numbskulls and Eastern European bots (that would be A@b.net) had taken over the comments page for enough time. Poor Ken Stevens had to put up with that crap-- sorry, Kenny The S! Time for the boss to check in again with the Zesty Topicality!
As it's spring again in Howard County, and another season of Merriweather concerts is upon is, once again it's time for-- noise complaints! The HCCA listserve recently featured a post from Some Random Poster about the disruption to their "peace and tranquility" due to noise from the concerts held so far during MPP season 2018!
OK then. I live the exact same distance from Merriweather as I did last year (cause I live in the same place, don't ya know?) and from where I sit, the concerts sound exactly the same, if not a little quieter. So I dunno what SRP is saying about louder. But the people who have long taken up the cause that MPP brings up way too much noise for their fragile constitutions such as Stu "HCCA Killer" Kohn and Russ "of course perfectly sane people wear fishing vests every day of the year" Swatek are seizing upon this singular report as reason to just complain and complain mightily. Their complaints are the complaints of the fringe. My belief is that 99-plus% of the people who live anywhere within Merriweather's earshot, loves it. At least that's the case on my six-house street. In fact, MPP satisfaction is 100% on my street! So there!
Enough on that nonsense. This is also the season in HoCo for-- politics! In 2018, of the local and state variety. I think I've written about that a time or two here recently. Anyway, I focus more than enough on what's wrong with the business of the politics in Howard County and Maryland. Now for a few things about what's right!
Aisha Khan, candidate in District 44B for Delegate, is something that's right. Why? Just look at the picture on the front page of her website and tell me what you think! If that's not an awesome use of the greatest flag in the nation, I don't know what is.
The Washington Post's unexpected endorsement of political newcomer David Blair for Montgomery County Executive.
The outpouring of love and respect shown in the light of the sudden and devastating passing of Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. During the last several days we saw Maryland's political class at it's most human. It's not always this way and it's really painful that it takes the passing of a major political leader in this state for others of both sides to drop their guard and be "normal".
And as a bonus, something that is just generally awesome. Because it's playoff hockey season too! Therefore, the fact that the Washington Capitals are actively marketing in the Baltimore area (including two huge billboards on I-95) and that they are being welcomed and embraced as Baltimore's NHL hockey team. As witnessed by, among other things, Orioles players wearing Capitals hats after their game Friday night. Now, let's go the extra mile, get a new arena in Charm City and get some AHL pucks downtown. But, with the Caps still in the playoffs, one can dream maybe even bigger. The Stanley Cup at the Inner Harbor? Why not?
Let's be careful out there.
