Of course I'm not going to ignore the election results and will provide insight on what happened and maybe why it did and maybe what this means for 2016 and 2018 in Howard County, but not right now. The next couple days are about the next battle.
And the next battle happens at the Planning Board Thursday night at 7:00pm. The Site Development Plan for Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods will be considered.
In my next post I will post my testimony. But let's today review all the reasons why we need a dynamic park in the center of Columbia:
-- We need a vibrant space downtown to bring residents to the lakefront on a regular basis, as well as attract visitors from outside Columbia and Howard County;
-- Attractions and attractive structures, well, attract! And to keep Columbia's and Howard County's tax base strong we need to bring young families to Columbia. Such people are attracted by energy and activity, which this project will bring;
-- There's been talk for almost 50 years about Symphony Woods being the center of Columbia's cultural activity. And it has been that. Building the Chrysalis Ampitheatre, and eventually developing the arts village in Symphony Woods, will ensure that the land remains that forever; and
-- The opportunity exists to create and redefine Columbia for the next 50 years. The Inner Arbor Trust project for Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods (wow, that's a mouthful!) is one way to take advantage of that opportunity.
There's a long road ahead to realize the dream for Symphony Woods but the next step on that road is taken Thursday. Please join me there.
Happy whatever today is.
Let's be careful out there.

Nothing more invigorating than a negative troll post to start my day. Just a reminder of how far we still need to go as a society. At least that's a slightly more believable email than ray@rice.com

Yea - kind of like Watson and Ullman were a package deal in defeat...maybe there are some thoughtful republicans out there that people liked and voted for (that are not just evil misinformation artists)
Please let's not blame Obama for this result...
Go Inner Arbor!

Misinformation artists? The Baltimore Sun even called Brown's campaign dishonest. Brown lost because he was not the better man. Many people said the Brown ticket was upside down, but Ulman wouldn't have won either. At least Brown had fun spending Ulman's dowry!
