Here was Michael Davis's very stunning, sharp, relatable to the common person retort to my last post:
Actually, Bill, I would like to thank you for acknowledging all of my points, including your wonderful partisanship, in your very Bill Woodcock manner. Thanks!
In other words, I win. Pretty much, I always win. The number of times I've been in error is far outnumbered by the number of times I've been right. Pretty much, in time, I'm almost always right.
See, this is the kind of Bizarroworld where Mike and so many milquetoast "conservatives" live in now. Anyone who opposes them or who calls something they say untrue is a "partisan". And he knows me much better than to call me that. There's a post I wrote a couple months ago where some Democrats called me to task, publicly and privately. But far more thought I was right on target. Nevertheless, I believe my rep here is to call balls and strikes, to share my truth, even if it's uncomfortable.
But to deny the past is to live a lie. Sure, people can change their spots. And "partisan" does not equate to "unfit to govern". It doesn't mean that at all. People run for party nominations in the primary elections for a reason. Among them: to represent a party! So I think Mike Davis and the Milquetoasts are running from their own shadow. Running from some fear that isn't there. I think Republican leaders from years gone by would be ashamed by that behavior.
Now, here's a fear that's clear and present. And the face of the Republican Party in HoCo that is up and coming. Maybe this is what replaces the Kittleman/Flanagan/Bartlett Republicans?
Here's a Facebook post from the "Howard County MD" group. Featuring Becca Niburg of Together We Will, Frank Mirabile from the Republican Central Committee, and Herb Smith from the Democratic Central Committee at a recent local NAACP meeting. I provide a warning-- there is racially triggering and offensive language here. This is the link to the video.
If you didn't or can't see the video, here's what I think. I think it's sad when Republicans-- or Democrats (who's being partisan now, Michael?)-- resort to hot button words in order to make a political point. But in the video, it's the Republican Central Committee member who throws the grenades. So this is all-- ALL-- on the HoCo GOP. The MO of the Howard County Republican Party, in its current form, is to assume the average person is ignorant and stupid. And they come at people with a certain smug, "I'm better than you" attitude that ought to earn each and every one of them a smack in the back of their heads from their grandmothers. But, I grant the fact that a certain portion of the electorate will fall for those hot buttons every time-- because it's easier than thinking and evaluating for themselves.
And, you know what? For ANYONE to express disagreement with that-- that's not "partisan". That's being honest. That's being a Howard Countian, a Marylander, and an American.
Last point I will make here briefly-- as strongly as people feel about social and cultural issues, let's not forget. We still need to make sure people have good jobs, kids can get a good education, roads are paved, trains run on time, and in general, make sure that people get value for their tax money. It's all part of the mosaic about government's role in society. I'll write more about this in my next post.
Let's be careful out there.

Sometimes this blog gets very weird (like this post), and you are clearly a legend in your own mind, but I will give you credit for allowing comments. I honestly don't even know why some bloggers bother blogging if they don't allow comments.
